Thank you for considering hosting a Shark Advocacy Week. I actually came upon the idea of this program from an article I was reading on the Shark Savers Facebook page, where some schools in California started this program. My mom and I both begged the principal of my school, Boca Raton Preparatory, to please allow the school to have a Shark Advocacy Week. He finally agreed and the rest is history. Since our schools shark week was so fantastic, I am really hoping that other schools in South Florida will follow our lead and step up to the plate and give a voice to sharks! Sharks are so vital to our oceans, so if you care about our oceans and our Earth, sharks should be on your helping list.
Below, you will find downloads to word documents which were all used for our Shark Advocacy Week. These can easily be recreated to suit your school and your specific goals and needs. We involved our schools PTO and had them assist us with marketing this program. We had volunteers go out to businesses in our local community and ask for donations and these businesses were included as sponsors of our program. You can also alter this program to your area. Most colleges can be contacted to learn if they offer any type of Shark tagging trips or research programs available for students if RJD is not near your school geographically. I also recommend you contact the Shark Savers Organization and involve them as they are worldwide and can offer you lots of assistance and recommendations.
I really appreciate you taking the time to check this out and I really, really hope that you decide to launch this program at our school. Students are the key to the Ocean’s future!
